“Purge max”-parameter will be automatically calculated by filling in the “Max condensation from boiler”- and “Length hose to boiler”-parameter.
This is parameter is the length in time that is needed to purge out the condensation water when the hoses are full with condensation water. A Perfect Moose will purge out the condensation water from the hoses before it start a steaming-cycle, this happens while the steam wand is moving downwards.
A Perfect Moose will always calculate the time needed to purge out the collected condensation water. When a Perfect Moose Greg hasn't been used for longer then 10minutes a lot of condensation water will be present in the hoses, then it will need to purge for the maximum length in time (=Purge max) before starting the next steaming-cycle. When a Perfect Moose just has done a steaming-cycle and starts a new steaming-cycle, then there will only be a little bit of condensation water collected in the hoses. which results in a steam wand moving downwards faster before starting a new steaming-cycle, because there was less condensation water collected in the hoses.
Less cooling down time = less condensation water = faster functioning of the Perfect Moose
- "Max condensation from boiler"-parameter is the maximum quantity of water accumulated between the steam boiler of the espresso machine and the connection point on the Perfect Moose. (Red tube in the drawings below)
This can be measured by flushing and weighing the condensation water from the internal connection. The parameter of maximum condensation can also be taken from the table below by checking the length and diameter of the tube in red.
Connection to the steam boiler | Max condensation from boiler |
Measure the condensation water OR Check the length and diameter of the“red line” in the table below | |

- "Length hose to boiler"-parameter is the exact length of steam connection hose in mm between the espresso machine and the Perfect Moose. (Green tube in the drawings above). The steam connection hose length is 1.5 m, which is the maximum length. (=59inches = 4ft 11inches) Cut this hose as short as possible, this will result in less condensation water collection.
Shorter steam connection hose = less condensation water = faster functioning of the Perfect Moose
